Falmouth University is a specialist public university for the creative industries founded in Falmouth and Penryn, Cornwall, England. Originated as the Falmouth School of Art in 1902, it has beforehand been known as Falmouth College of Art and Design and then Falmouth College of Arts until 2012, when the University College was formally settled full university status by the Privy Council.

The university is situated in Penryn and Falmouth. Penryn Campus, near the town of Penryn, is the larger of its two campuses, which it functions in partnership with the University of Exeter. Falmouth Campus is in Falmouth town center. Falmouth has about 7,000 students, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Falmouth Campus is the university’s core administrative hub and is the core center for the Schools of Art, Design and Fashion. It is home to the courses of BA(Hons)Fashion Design, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Performance Sportswear Design, Sustainable Product Design and Public Relations, and provides facilities for MA Creative Advertising and MA Illustration: Authorial Practice. Due to the projected high intake for September 2012, the campus underwent changes to provide accommodations this, with the first floor of the library being transformed into BA Graphic Design studios following disavowal of planning consent to build upon the already existing graphic design department building.

Surrounding the campus within the town of Falmouth are several annexes. Arwenack Annexe which was the unique School of Art, Wellington Terrace Annexe which hosts the Foundation Degree students and Henry Scott Tuke House in the center of the town accommodating those studying at Wellington Terrace and some undergraduates originated at Falmouth Campus. Since 2002, the original school of art building has providing dedicated studios for MA Fine Art: Contemporary Practice.

Falmouth Campus is managed by staff employed by the university.

The Student Union, “FXU”, is the illustrative body of the students of Falmouth University and the University of Exeter, Cornwall Campus, on the campuses of Falmouth and Penryn. FXU organizes events for students all through the year, facilitates community action and volunteering, and provides opportunity for sporting involvement and bids student welfare advice. It was recognized by the National Union of Students in the 2015 NUS awards, when it won ‘Small and Specialist Student Union of the Year’, Green Impact Gold and Non-Commercial Students’ Union of the Year. It was also runner up in the UKCISA ‘Most Internationalized Students’ Union of the Year’.

The university’s coat of arms were settled by the College of Arms on 15 October 2014. The arms are painted in University colors of White, Black and ‘Cornish Gold’. The arms depict a Falmouth Packet Ship demonstrating Falmouth’s connection to the rest of the world. Atop the coat of arms is a crest which depicts a Cornish Chough holding a paintbrush, pen and pencil signifying that Falmouth University is truly a specialist institution of the arts. Just below this is a reference to Pendennis Castle.

The coat of arms are earmarked for graduation ceremonies and degree award certificates, thus demonstrating the power and authority of Cornwall’s only university.

  • To be eligible for GREAT Scholarships, You must demonstrable interest and motivation to advance in the chosen subject area and have an undergraduate degree or relevant work experience
  • To be eligible for GREAT Scholarships, You must meet our English language requirements
  • To be eligible for GREAT Scholarships, You must be willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture insights of studying in the UK
  • To be eligible for GREAT Scholarships, You must be willing to uphold contact with the British Council and Falmouth University and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships
  • As an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, be willing irregularly to speak to possible candidates about your experience of studying in the UK.

How to Apply for GREAT Scholarships for International Students
